You may have noticed brown plastic “ooze tubes” that have been placed around new trees in street boxes throughout the city. The tubes bear the imprint Mayor’s Summer Corps, and were indeed installed as part of the city’s summer jobs program. They are similar to “tree gators” long recommended by the Dupont Circle Citizens Association for new trees. DCCA even offers its members a partial rebate on the gators to encourage their use.
